Description

Alpha-1-Antitrypsin (A1AT or AAT) is a protease inhibitor synthesized by the liver which plays a role in acute inflammation. The application of A1AT staining is to identify A1AT deficiency, as well as benign and malignant yolk sac carcinomas, and hepatic cancers. Some reports have found α-A1AT staining to be useful for recognizing benign and malignant histiocytic tumours, and screening patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis, liver disease, and portal fibrosis of unknown etiology.
